Types of acne scars and their causes
Acne scars are classified according to their appearance and depth:
Atrophic scars (depressions)
- Ice pick scars: Deep and narrow, like ice pick marks
- Boxcar scars: Wide with defined edges, like square boxes
- Rolling scars: Wavy, cause irregular skin appearance
Raised scars: hypertrophic and keloids
- Hypertrophic: Raised, staying within the edge of the original lesion
- Keloids: Grow beyond the original lesion; more common on the back, shoulders and jawline
