Mastopexy Preparation: Your Path to Flawless Results
Mastopexy or breast lift is one of the most transformative procedures in plastic surgery. However, its success doesn’t just depend on the surgeon’s skill but on how well-prepared your body is for healing.
Here is the ultimate list of steps to follow in the weeks leading up to your procedure at ALMO Clinic.

1. Lifestyle and Health (4 Weeks Before)
Say Goodbye to Tobacco
This is the most critical point. Nicotine reduces blood flow to tissues, which in a lift (where skin and nipple are moved) can cause serious healing problems or tissue loss. You must completely stop smoking or vaping at least one month before surgery.
Medication Review
Stop taking aspirin, ibuprofen, Vitamin E, Ginkgo Biloba, or supplements that may increase bleeding risk. Strictly follow your surgeon’s instructions on which medications to keep.
Nutrition and Hydration
Increase your protein and water intake. Well-hydrated and nourished skin has better elasticity and responds better to sutures.
2. Mandatory Medical Exams
To ensure your surgery in Bogota is 100% safe, we will request:
- Breast Ultrasound: Essential to rule out any pre-existing masses or cysts.
- Mammogram: If you are over 40 or have a family history.
- Complete Blood Count (CBC): To check your hemoglobin and immune cell levels.
- Coagulation Tests: To ensure your body will heal correctly.
3. Prepare Your “Recovery Station”
You won’t want to be looking for things after surgery. Organize your home:
- Comfortable Clothing: Shirts that open in the front (you won’t want to lift your arms over your head).
- Extra Pillows: You should sleep semi-seated (45 degrees) for the first 2 weeks to reduce swelling.
- Your Surgical Bra: Have the model recommended by the ALMO team ready.
- Prepared Meals: Have light, nutritious portions ready for the first 3 days.
4. The Day Before Your Surgery
- Fasting: Follow the time instructions (usually 8 hours) without eating solids or drinking liquids.
- Hygiene: Shower with neutral antibacterial soap.
- No Accessories: Remove nail polish, jewelry, piercings, and makeup.
- Companion: Make sure a trusted person picks you up and stays with you for at least the first 24 hours.
Preparation is 50% of the success. If you have questions about any medication or pre-existing symptoms, our patient care team is ready to help.
